

Basically, damage is the difference in successes between two Conflict Pools. In V5, situations involving basic contests that result in damage – physical or mental – are called conflicts, they are explained starting on page 123. Using weapon damage at all is an optional rule in the system, and as such is found in the advanced combat section.

Physical combat is presented as though it's meant to be kept out of the way of the story. The combat in V5 is extremely simplified to a point where weapons are only categorized by rough groupings. Other information is only for certain specific editions, like weapon damage for example. Some information can be useful regardless of the system used, such as weapon size, weight, ammo capacity, concealment, etc. It's up to you to select what's useful for your chronicle, ignoring what doesn't. However, not all information provided will be used in all editions.
